Cast codes for 47??

i seen a HV with cast codes on the top of the tranny right by the brakes and there was no letter it was 12-7-47 ..What years did they use this format? I think they should of used this format all the time. but i have only seen this one other time. but it was on a 47 hV and a couple of the codes were 47 also were some letter codes to. there were "Q" "r" codes also. what gives? any one know what is up with this? he said it was a 48 hv but the cover on gears said 12-7-47 I know they use parts from a few month times period. well i'm gonna go grill some Johnsonville brats now!
