I have no idea how the 656 FWA is configured. I haven't taken the Elwood gearbox off my 660 so I can't tell you with any precision how it works. Just as there is a sliding gear in the belt pulley gearbox, the Elwood has the same. The main difference is that the BP driven gear mates with the BP driving gear on the input shaft of the transmission. The Elwood gear connection is thru the main shaft. It works in all gears including tractors equipped with a TA. For those who are curious, the box pictured above will fit any M or W-6 thru 560/660.
