Are you talking about a 14-15 foot Kuhn or something similar? I ran a 14 foot Kuhn for many years with a super C, and now use a 16 foot Grimm with it. You can run third gear all day if the ground is smooth enough, and there are no really scary up or downgrades. On the first pass if the hay is really green and heavy, you would probably do a better job in second gear.
