Just did those seals and bearings yesterday. I suspect you don't have the top cover off like I did, but I did have bad bearing there that cause the seal to leak and dumped bearing parts into the bottom of the housing. The seal number is 23184 and is an "SKF" seal if you have to have the number cross referrenced. I only put in one also, but if it leaks you can drive it back further in the hole and put in another one. The original seal is about an inch wide and has 2 lips. The replacement is rubber type and about 1/4 inch or so. There is a drain back hole at the bottom of the housing so if you use 2 seals don't block the hole off totally. The shaft that is in there drives the bull gears and holds up the differential so check it for slop. Mine was loose.
