Well, we have to look at it this way.. If the sliding gears are in the correct position, in relation to the shift forks and driving gears, then the problem is not there.. Now, if the pilot bearing has locked up the input shaft and the main shaft, we would have the 5th gear in neutral.. Granted that 5th gear being off of the fork would do the same thing, and the problem would most likely be a dretent ball and spring.. I do know for a fact that sometimes, the main shaft pilot bearing is let go for so long that it will seze up and cause a 5th gear in neutral problem.. I have never heard of this being a problem with the H, only the M... And usually when this problem occurs, the placing of the tractor in a lower gear, usually causes the mainshaft pilot bearing area to just shear completely off, causing the necessity to change both the mainshaft and input shaft, and poossibly some of the gears.. IT's just something to be aware of..
