First off, do you have access to a spray gun?? you won't want to do this by hand. Okay, the first thing you need to do is try to brush/power spray as much of the rust off as possible. Then use a good rust inhibitive primer, there are several companies that make this type of primer in large inexpensive quantities. Once the primer has dried, use a midcoat paint, similar to the type used on bridges. Then finally your topcoat. There are a few different types you can use. You could go with a standard aluminum paint, such as used for barn roofs, this however, will need to be recoated every two or three years. My recommendation, and this is a little more costly is to go with an aluminum vinyl paint. This forms a very durable exterior film and resists a great deal of weather related abuse. Send me an e-mail if you have any more questions.
