Do you mean the pipe or the exhaust lift valve? If the exhaust lift valve broke, and a piece of it worked its way into the exhause port (don't know how it would do that, but let's assume it could) you may have an exhaust valve not closing. Other than that, I can't think of anything would make it run rough. Like John said, though, the pipe itself is just that, a piece of pipe. I used a 8" long 1 1/2" pipe nipple from the hardware store. Works fine.
