I adjust mine to about 1 inch pedal travel. Then drive it to make sure it doesn't pull to one side. The side it pulls to is either over adjusted, or the side it pulls away from is under adjusted. The shaft the discs connect to do have an oil seal. I had water in mine when I first got it that came out looking like oil but it was just the brake dust mixed in that gave it the grimmy thick look. There easy to adjust and very sensitive to slight bolt movement.
