You do not put the resistor beyween the coil and the distributer. It goes in the 12 volt power source normally from the switch to the coil. We went over all of this the other day on here. A 12 volt coil is fine as long as you have one that does not have an internal resistor. If the tractor is running OK leave it alone. Check the coil to make sure it doesn`t get to hot. Place your hand on it. If you can hold it there is should be OK. Don`t fix something that doesn`t need fixing. Good Luck!
