I've got a 41 also. It's TDC at about 425-450 rpm. Use number one piston which is the "front piston closest to the fan." The crankshaft pulley may or may not have two notchs - if one, that's it - if two, use the first one to reach the pointer as the pulley turns. The best view with the timing light will be looking at the pointer from the carb side of the tractor looking down and past the bottom radiator hose. From that side, you will see the notch or notches rotate over the top coming toward you. If you want to improve cranking a little, then advance it by about 2 degrees BTDC or approx the difference between the two marks,- - if one mark about 1/2 inch. In other words, if you advance it slightly either way the mark will appear to move a tiny bit "above the pointer." The engine will smooth, and gain a few rpm. Don't advance it far enough to slow the rpm. Get the best grade gasoline you can at the station. At high rpm, look for approx 30 degrees of advance, just to make sure the dist mechanical advance is working. Good luck. Also, make sure your points and condenser are ok, and that the points (dist - .020, magneto .013) are set correctly. Good luck. RKS
