an overheated engine will surge. Do you have a temp guage on the tractor, and what is the reading when it acts up? An overheated engine has a different "smell," which is really hard to explain if you haven't smelled it. A careful tune-up is always handy. It may or may not help you. You will have to start eliminating causes one-by- one. RKS
