Actually there are several components to a mechanical TA that can be dealt with separately. Your failure is probably in the ramp & carrier, or one-way clutch. This carrier also contains the planetary gears, which need to be timed when reassembled. The TA's flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate drive the tractor in direct, you will have to disassemble these to get the carrier out. A double split will be necessary to do the job. Hy-Capacity is a good source, and there are choices such as sprag-type or ramp & roller style and a 6- or 9 spring TA pressure plate, button disc, etc. I did a 400 3 years ago and dropped $1000 in parts, did the labor myself.
