Jim,
Sitting on the tractor seat, just in front of where the clutch linkage goes in to the clutch, there is an aluminum tag riveted to the clutch housing. The S/N will be stamped in this plate (if it's still there). You may have to clean it up to read it, but the S/N slould start with FBK- then numbers then suffix codes (X1 is high compression gasoline). Check the S/N on this site to find the year. You might want to get a copy of Guy Fay's International Harvester Tractor Data Book. It has a wealth of data on the Letter series Farmalls and is only about $10, well worth that. Phil
