I had mine off not too long ago. Seems like we had to pull the gas tank first. Then remove all the mtg bolts around the flange. Then there are "two" long bolts on the top of the unit that have to be removed too. At this point you would think it would come off but if the dowell pins are rusty it will still be on fast. On each side of the unit there are two "threaded" dowells used for alignment. Clean all the grease, paint, etc., off from them and then screw a hex nut onto them. When the nut bottoms out give it a good quarter turn and it will unstick itself. Remove both dowells and then the unit is free to come off. The opening created by removing the unit will be subject to debris falling into the transmission. So be careful on taking it off. The hardest part of all this is getting the dowells free!! Good luck.
