Red has the idea here. If the shaft through the main casting is stuck then you need to emery cloth it free etc. You may also have water in your gear box too! Most of these old tractors have never had the gear lube changed. To purge the gear lube you need to remove the big plug below the pto and then the smaller plug on the lower end of the front side of main casting. Both have to be removed to get "all" the oil out. When drained remove the large flat plug near the gear shift base. This is where the fill point is. It will take around 6 to 7 gallons of 90W or 140W to fill it back. There is a smaller plug on the side of the casting that is to be used as the "full" mark.
