Charles, Yes indeed the engine can crankup and run for a good long time with the battery in backward. The battery will not charge though, but as long as you don't run the lights much you won't have too much trouble. My great uncle ran his Super M with the batter on backward for probably ten years or more. He'd just jump the 6 volt off of the 12 volt pickup truck. There'd be enough power in the battery then to run the tractor all that day, then he'd park it and maybe it'd go another day or two before needin a jump. I swapped it back right last time I was there, but since the reg is polarized it still don't charge. I've gotta go back up end of August so I'll fix it right then.
