Reading your original post, you said you replaced the points but not the condenser in the distributor. Since the tractor runs well, we can probably eliminate the cond. for now. However, have a good look in the distributor for any place the incoming wire could be up against a ground--including the condenser lead. When you have the coil & alternator Bat. wire disconnected, pull the 2 regulator wires as well & see what the amp draw is then. On one of these old tractors, there is only 3 electrical areas---ignition, charging, & lights which can be causing your problem. We have to know which one is at fault. By the way, take care of the family first. The tractor will still be waiting.
