al stick the nut back on and give it a good pop. This is my 4th or 5th. water pump and those tapered bolts are just plain stubborn. Another idea is get a piece of one by hard wood and drill a hole that is larger than the head on that tapered bolt. Stick that over the bolt head, stick on your nut on the threaded end and use a C clamp to squeeze that tapered bolt out. Good luck. They are frustrating indeed.
