If you are looking to install an affordable gauge for function try this. Go to an auto parts store, a find a mechanical temp gauge with a capillary tube that is long enough to reach the top radiator hose outlet. The capillary tube must not have the spiral metal conduit covering the capillary tube. Take the radiator hose off at the engine and place the end of the capillary tube up in the hose and run the cap. tube outside the outlet and use a tie wrap to secure the tubing to the neck of the outlet. Place a little RTV over the tubing and at the vicinity of the outlet neck where the tubing is. Carefully slide the radiator hose in place and tighten the clamp. If you would feel more satisfied use two clamps, staggering the screws. Check for leaks. This setup has worked for me and has not been leak prone.
