When I did mine I hung the back of the tractor with a chain from overhead and also blocked up under the transmission. A big help was getting some reasonablly long bolts that would thread in the holes that hold the housings to the transmission and cutting the heads off. I used two on each side to act like alignment pins and also help support the weight as we slid the housings back on. Replace the seals in the transmission and if the axels have grooves in them where the seal rides sleeve them or you'll get to do this all over again because the fluid from the tranny will get on the linings and ruin them.
