Dads 460 used to do this, the only thing he said was shift more carefully and not in a hurry. Your proably dooing this already, if it were mine i'd see if the the worn edges could be built up with weld and returned to their original shape. I'd also check to see if those rails rode in bushings and they had worn. Stupid question, is that spring around the lever in good shape???
PS our 544 utility will do the same thing except you can push it back into one of the gears and free it up, makes up for when you think it's in nutral and it isn't, I always let out the clutch like it's in gear.
