The white smoke almost always indicates you're burning water. A crack allowing water into a cylinder would explain both the white smoke and the missing. I also believe you have excessive amounts of rust in your fuel tank. Look in gas tank with a flashlight, If you see much rust, empty and flush out. You will continue to have problems until all the rust is out.
