In addition to all the other good advice you've gotten, here's a couple of other things to consider. 1) Definitely drain the gas tank and put in fresh gas. 2) Blue smoke might also be a sign of bad ignition. When I bought my H the timing was so far off I still can't believe it ran, but it did smoke and had little power. Setting timing right got rid of most of the smoke and gave a great increase in power. While you're at it a complete replacement of points, plugs, condenser, rotor, and distributor cap is a good idea. Spark Plug wires also have a limited life span. And buy good quality components, I bought a tune-up kit from Central Tractor and was not at all satisfied. 3) Hot starter switch might be a bad cable from the switch to the starter. Mine didn't look too bad except for all the cracks and ragged tape wrapped around it, but the switch got real hot and the starter barely turned. Since I replaced the cable it has worked fine. Check all the other wires and connections, you're dealing with pretty low voltages here and bad connections can hurt a lot. Wires and cables are inexpensive.
