Charles, To convert to 12 volts is not hard or expensive, depending on your situation with the local salvage yard. We normaly use the delco 10SI alternator, yes it looks to big to fit under the hood but it will and still have a tight belt. In fact use the belt that is used for the generator, also use the same lower bracket the top adjuster bracket we use one off from some old car or whatever and put a arch in it to fit over the alt. There are also 12 volt bulbs aviable for the lights. We like to find a 12 volt coil with built in resistor (used of course) All together you should be able to do the whole job for less than $50 in used parts.
