I have a '48 M and so I would think the oil is checked the same way on a '47. On the distributor cap side of the tractor, up by the radiator, is a strange looking reservoir with a lid screwed on. This is where you pour the engine oil. You check the oil by locating the two petcocks on the oil pan under the engine. The oil should always run out of the lower petcock, if not ADD OIL IMMEDIATELY! Open the upper petcock and fill oil until it begins to run out. Your oil level is now full. The hydraulic reservoir is located on the same side of the tractor, just behind the engine and in front of the belt pulley. There is a small bleeder valve built into the reservoir cap. Open this first to relieve any pressure. Then remove the screw on cap. There will be a hanging dipstick dangling down into the hydraulic pump reservoir. This will have the appropriate 'add' and 'full' indicators on the end. If you need to add any fluid, just pour it into the same hole you are checking. Be careful not to overfill. If you do pour in too much, simply remove the drain plug on the botton of the pump reservoir and let some run out. Good Luck!
