'52 Farmall H leaks gas

I have a 1952 Farmall H that used to leak gas around the air cleaner hose that sticks into the carb. We took the carb off and cleaned it and found that the pin that holds the float on popped out so we put it back in and got it tight so it wouldn't come out again. It ran really good for a couple of days and we accidently left the gas on for 30 minutes while it was off and we noticed it leaking again. It started it and drove for a long time though after that. Could a piece of dirt have got in it and caused that or is that normal if you leave the gas on? Anyways, once I parked it I cut the gas on for a few minutes and it didn't leak. I think it was just a piece of dirt but advice would be nice to have.
