Serial number is correct for a straight A. But remember; 1) the tag is just on a seat support and could have easily been changed. 2) alot of cabaged or mis-fit tractors are out there (I know a guy who has been taking engine and hydraulics from C's and switching it into a straight A to make his own pseudo Super A's for about 25 years now). The most noticeable difference between the Super and Straight A's is an engine driven hydraulic pump mounted below the distributer, and the touch control hydraulic reservoir and rockshaft arms mounted under the fuel tank. The straight A's (all but a few of the very late 47's) don't have the cutout for the pump on the engine block, and just have a metal bracket to support the back of the fuel tank. Simple check to verify you have an AV and not an A is the AV has 36" rear rims, 24" on an A. The serial numbers for the Super A start at 250001. The other thing you can do is get the casting codes from everything in sight to see what year the parts were made (they are all two, one or two digit numbers, then a letter that represent month day year). You can post the engine block part number also, it's behind the oil filter. That is correct for max engine speed as far as I recall, it was governed around 1400 to 1450 for high idle. Good luck Stan(VA).
