Wendel - Starter, glow plugs, etc don't care about ground polarity. You can hook 'em up either way and they're work fine. Only thing you'll have change is the wiring at the ammeter, if the tractor has one. Simply swap the connections to the two posts so ammeter doesn't read "backward" on negative ground. Fuel ignition on all diesels is accomplished by the heat of compression - this is why diesels are also called "compression ignition" engines. No spark plugs or other source of ignition is necessary, aside from glow plugs for assisting cold starting on some designs.
