I installed a 3-53 Detroit in a M, kept it to original length. 3 cylinder but sounds like a 6 cylinder. The engine has a variable speed governor, it is set at same speed the M engine was so it is no faster on the road and pto speed is correct. Was able to use the plate that was between the M engine block and clutch housing but before removing it from the original engine I bolted a bar to crankshaft flange and attached an awl to scribe a circle same diameter as the Detroit flyhousing bolt pattern. One turn of the engine crankshaft and had a nice circle concentric with the crank, spaced and center punched for the holes to match the Detroit engine. Did need to lengthen the clutch shaft and also the carrier for the release collar. Had to rework frame rails to get around the starter on one side and the lube cooler on the other side. It turned out nice, tractor didn't have a belt pulley so mounted the dry type air cleaner under the fuel tank. It's a diesel M but not a MD. With a straight pipe, sounds like a power house but don't know how much power it really has. Good luck.
