I have just rebuilt a M engine, with help from many of you, and she purrs. When putting the hood back on, I noticed that there is an extra hole near the right rear that I believe was used as a filler hole for the small gas tank, which would indicate that the engine was distillate. There is no small tank now, and the tractor had flat top pistons from a 400. Someone told me that all gas tractors had an "X" in the serial number. My serial number is FBK202714 for Model M. Is the serial number method correct? Is there any other way to tell a gas engine from all fuel?
