450 Problem

I am putting the engine back together on my 450 and I bought a LP head to put back on it. After installing it I went to bolt on my rocker arm set and found that 3/16 of a inch has been milled off of the head and now if I bolt my rocker set down tight it holds the valves open even with the tappets adjusted all the way up.If I shim the rocker arm assembly up then the valve cover will not go on. Is it possible to have push rods shortened? HELP!!!
