Jeff , does your M have shutters on it, our 1939 M does and it will stay in the cold range unless you are putting it to serious work, I just shut the shutters a little when I'm playing around in the wood lot. If you don't run shutters I would guess thermostat replacement...but if you work it hard does it move into the "Run" range? If this is just a cool weather thing wrap a blanket on the grill...good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontaio
