Need Differential/ pinion gear info for a Super A

We changed all 8 bearings on the L & R axle and differential sides and it has worked out good so far, however I discovered that 4 teeth were chipped on the counter shaft & bevel pinion {on the back edge } after we had removed the PTO case I found the chips in the bottom of the housing! three questions; 1} what could have caused them to be broken ,2} will they cause any farther damage, and 3} how would you replace the counter shaft and bevel pinion if it were necessary???
