Justin, I have used a cub for the last 35 years they are great little tractors and should last as long as you take reasonable care of it. Mine is a 1949 and is a 6 volt my brother as an early 50's model which is also 6 volt. Remeber this the 6 volt tractors are hooked-up so that the positive terminal is to the ground....... If you think it is a 6 volt system and connect in the conventional positive to ground manner it will not charge properly and I do not believe it will turn over.. There are also manufacturers that make 8 volt batteries to provide a little more juice without overloading the systems as much as just sticking a 12 volt battery in a 6 volt system it. If it is a 6 volt it is probably stamped into the generator somewhere but it is tough to see the generator without taking the hood off. Good Luck.... Rodger
