Frozen Hyd. Fluid

I went out to use my 300U. the other day and found that the Hyd. fluid was like thick slush in the tank, so obviously no movement on the cylinders.The fluid also looked quite white-ish.It did go to -34C last week for a couple days.Any tips on how best to drain ALL of the fluid(dual acting cylinders)?
Any ideas why this might have happened? Should I put in some kind of filter while I have the system drained?
