Don't grind them. They should be painted. However you might want to wire brush them or sandblast them for paint preperation. You may want to put a coat of primer on before painting as well. If tire is removed it would be a good idea to paint both sides of rim (I like to paint entire rim if I have the oppertunity to protect rim from moisture that may get between tire and tube and the rim). I have heard of people using both aluminum and silver colored paint. I have also seen wheels with the rim clamps painted the same color of rims and I have seen rim clamps painted red. I don't know which is original but I like the looks of the red rim clamps. The caste iron wheel centers should be painted red. Oh yes, and all 4 rims should be the silver/aluminum color.
