If I ever opened a drain on a machine that has sat for six years and water ran out I would probably keel over!! If you have the radiator off, you probably should at least flush it out good, but most cooling systems are not well maintained and some sludge is usually present. Just be sure it doesn't leak or overheat and clean it out when you can. Just my $.02 worth.
