Thanks erkel3 and Mie ISW. to explain, when it first happened last year, I drained everything and cleaned plugs and carb. It ran fine. Then a month or so later, they did it again. This time it bent the rain flapper on the muffler - that is how hard it did it! BANG. Again, I got it going (This time I chained the cap down so they couldn't get to it.) To finally get it going, I had to disobey the book on timing procedure. When done I noticed the timing mark was off quite a bit from the original. O K No problem, it ran. Now through the time it took me to figure out a way to chain a tin can over the gas cap ( I need the tractor like everyday, so draining the gas becomes wearisome). They must have poisoned the gas quite a few times. It exploded three times and other times here is what happened. It starts like a champ. Runs a few minutes. Starts to ack like throttle too low You turn it up - it runs another few minutes. Now you are only chugging and throttle is opened all the way. You can go a few hundred more feet by choking it. Now it is GETTING GAS. The gas in the tank shows no signs of seperation- like water. So you drain the tank and carb- refill the tank with fresh gas. Remove plugs. You don't need to scrub them they look clean- you NEED to spray them with carb cleaner to remove a clear film. that film will come off on your finger and it won't dry. It must be shorting the plugs - because now it runs great again. Now a year has gone by. It started and ran great. It ran for a while, then suddenly it stopped like it hit a brick wall, not like you hit the kill switch. I changed gas, checked spark, retimed the mag ( because I flushed the impulse with kero to clean it- thinking that dirt may be keeping it from tripping). Won't fire up - it tried once in the many hours I tinkered. I know my timing isn't 180 degrees off because I corrected that accident the first day I played with it. Now after all that cranking, I checked the plugs and they are dry. THAT leads me to believe that the valves aren't opening correctly on the intake stroke. Only explaination I can figure for that is the timing gears broke or way spun out. Hope this make sense. I check this mail every few days so don't give up on me - I'm in the hills with NO PLOW tractor!!

Fabrication (Who Me? Make it myself?) - by Chris Pratt. First of all, what are the reasons for not fabricatin your own parts? Most judgements on what should be purchased rather than fabricated stem from: Originality - If the tractor restoration is to be 100% original, it is likely that you should spend the time and money to locate the component in the used or New-old-stock market. Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
