Stan,this is a total shot in the dark.I dont have a cub but in going through a pile of old carbs looking for a "Carter" to replace the one on my Super C,I ran across a couple with the air intake and choke assembly facing the opposite direction that mine did.I believe they were from cubs.If its possible to switch out the choke butterfly between these carbs than maybe your opening it instead of closing it.Just remove the air intake hose and see which way the butterfly moves with the choke rod.
