In Oz, 3pl was a common option for W6s and later Aust variations). It required a split transmission top to be fitted where the rear section carried the cross shaft and internal cylinder. Live hyd pump infront of mag provided both remotes and 3pl lift (provided Lift, Hold, Drop only). Getting of and off was an issue and later variations included front mount steps (eg Aust built 564B). I would have some manuals about the 3pl at home, email me if you want more info.
I have never seen a 3pl for W4 but some form of toolbar lift was used on W4s I have seen part of it in pictures of land army girls using them in WW2
