Dave: Basicly they were the same. Early MD's had the smaller cubes but the SMD was same as 400. The instructions were to allow engines to warm up befor hard work and for sure to allow cool down after hard work. We used our's as primary tractor during WW2 to late 50's WITHOUT any head problem's. R.
