Kurt: It's varies greatly just as many other industries have. The late 1800 hundreds were good as well as during WW one. Of course the 1930's was a depression. World War-2 and Korea war were good times. Since then farmers have been squeezed for the most of the last 25+ years. Survival of the quickest or fittest money wise is the name of the game. Just 3 or 4 days ago here on this Farmall forum there was a question posted asking what every one here does for a living. About 85 percent worked full time in NON farming jobs to live and farming was a sideline or hobby. There are still many full time farmers but they will be operating larger farms because of the VERY SLIM profit margin. A couple mistakes with money and a farmer can be busted quickly. Lots of soybeans from Brazil for example. I sold my beans and corn back in the 1950's for as much or more than they sometimes get now. A brand new Farmall Super MD-TA diesel was under $4000(Year-1954).- now a 45HP tractor is 7 to 11 times that. It's been a very very hard job for many to stay solvent. Some are lucky like my brother who inherted a half million dollar farm for almost nothing. There are still many like him who are living off of the parents hard earned money ..BUT a new person trying to start from zero is looking at a huge money risk by starting a farming operation. It's very competitave to say the least unless family members donate help. ( My views are from the midwest corn belt area) Other areas with livestock or other crops may differ a lot such as tobacco along the far Eastern states. Times change is a fact of life for certain. You know this last 100 years of mechanical change has forced more changes on farming than any maybe the last couple THOUSAND years. Growing food has been greatly changed just in only a 100 years. That has been hard on many slow to change farmers. Hope I didn't step on anyone feelings. R.

Hydraulics - Cylinder Anatomy - by Curtis von Fange. Let’s make one more addition to our series on hydraulics. I’ve noticed a few questions in the comment section that could pertain to hydraulic cylinders so I thought we could take a short look at this real workhorse of the circuit. Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
