I have been thinking about this for a while now, this post has just opened a forum for it. I want to state up-front that I am not a farmer, but I grew-up farming and am proud of that heritage. It seems to me what the American farmer needs is a powerful lobbying group in congress. A group that will look out for the interests of the American farmer and continously make sure farming related information is passed onto the American public via the news media. Being a proud member of the NRA, I believe farmers should take a strong look at how we go about insuring our second ammendment freedoms. Certainly, a similar farmer based organization would have to be dues-based in order to support the lobbying effort. All of the same obstacles the NRA faces on a daily basis would have to be confronted by the farmer oranization. I honestly believe, that if it were not for the NRA, there would no longer be private ownership of firearms in the United States. If the American farmer waits much longer to formally organize, I doubt the longevity of private owership of farmland and therfore the freedom to farm. Just my two cents worth.
