we have a 44 A with exhaust-lift.Andy`s point is well taken,but only if the control-valve is not functioning correctly .you can check this on the A you are looking at by seeing if it has a neutral setting working,between lift and lower on the control.this should allow the implement to continue to be raised while having the exhaust exiting the muffler instead of backing up against the exhaust valves.the raising of the cultivators puts exhaust-pressure into the cylinder and should not harm the engine.this also allows you to "inch" up and down as needed.a manual that i purchased from Gensales also included information on the exhaust-lift system. good luck on your purchase!
