If you chose to buy one that does not already have a painted background, the painting process is not as bad as it may seem. I black spray painted the piece and then while still wet wiped it across a rag wet with thinner. If you have difficulty with the technic, you can totally clean the piece a begin over. It took me three tries and it is perfect.

I tried the marker idea and an artist brush with poor results. Again, its a pretty forgiving project. Just wipe it off and start over.
