When the points go bad on our 544 it misses on 1 or 2 cylinders. If I pull the coil wire out a little bit it runs smoothly. I have no idea how the points could affect just one or two cylinders, but it happens. Also, with it pushing fuel out around the spark plug, our 544 did that too before we overhauled it, only it was oil. It would push oil out around all of the spark plugs and eventually they would come loose. Several times a couple of plugs fell out while I was mowing with it, didn't matter how tight we put them in.
