how bad are the threads? i'm not fimiliar with the cub plug size, but would assume it to be 18mm, if so then auto zone has a thread chaser, 14mm on one end and 18mm on the other to repair threads, and they are cheap compared to taps. if you have the head off then screw the chaser (or tap) in from the bottom starting in good threads. i've cut threads between the origional threads by starting in the damaged end with a tap.
