If it's just an O-ring, you might try replacing the O-ring before you spend the money on a new valve. If you think it went bad due to welding, it's probably the seal at the handle shaft. Take only as much apart as needed, it helps to have an exploded picture, and take off the O-ring, take it into a small hydraulic shop and get a new one, then CAREFULLY reassemble, keeping everything super clean. Wet the new seal with hydraulic fluid before installing. What the heck, it'll only cost a couple bucks and you get to take something apart.
