I have an Ottawa Backhoe EX TD5 487 and I repack the cylinders myself. Previously I used the oldstyle horsehair packing. I now use a 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch packing that I think is coated with graphite. When I replace the pakcing I slide the nut up the cylinder and use a small cork screw type tool to remove the old packing. Then I fit the new packing around the cylinder and slice it at a 45 degree angle in the direction so the nut will slide overtop the last portion of the slice to not loosen it. I use two pieces with the slice one on each side of the cylinder. Sometimes it is a little hard to getthe nut started, but I tap lightly with a hammer to get the nut started. I was also looking for information on the Ottawa Backhoe company, if you ever received any could you please contact me. I need a valve bank rebuild kit. Or if you know who the valve bank manufacturer was I would appreciated it if you could supply that information. Thank you. GrataNaNa365@aol.com
