close study of the f-12 f-14 shows it with a downdraft carbureator. the bowl (the place where the gas is in the carb) is above the bottom of the fuel tank, therefore, the fuel cannot run uphill to the carb. the fuel pump helps it (gas) up into the carb. the f-20 and most other farm tractors was designed with a updraft carb below the bottom of the tank. the fuel can flow down to the carb when the tractor is level. are you more confused now?
